Tutorial of a basic quilled flower

Hello people!!
Here I present you with tutorial of a basic quilled flower. Now you must be wondering, why is she not explaining various kinds of quilled shapes! Let me tell you! This is what you need to start with - a flower. A basic flower can be added wherever you want to; in frames, bookmarks, keychains, earings, necklace, greeting cards and much more.
So shoutout to all those beginners who is confused and is unable to understand how to start quilling.
Let's quill! Now there are two shapes needed to make a flower - a tight coil and a teardrop.
Tight coil
Teardrop
And to make them, you need just three things:-
1) A slotted tool - You get easily in any of the stationery shop (mine is homemade tool, i will write a blog about it later)
2) Glue - You can use any glue, whichever you get access to in your local stationery shop. There are various glue like Fevicol, Scotch, Elmer's glue, etc. (I use Scotch multipurpose white glue)
3) Quilling strips - Again this is accessible in any stationery shops; it comes in variety of colours with 3mm, 5 mm, 7mm and 10mm width. (I am using 3mm strips)

Steps for tight coil:-
  1.  Insert the slotted tool at the end of the coil.
  2. Hold it between the index finger and the thumb.
  3. Keep rolling.
  4. Apply a very small amount of glue at the end and seal it.
  5. Here's your tight coil.
Steps for teardrop:-
  1. Make a coil just like above, but don't glue the end.
  2. Hold the coil and loosen it up slowly.
  3. Once you have loosen it upto your desired size, pinch a part with two fingers to make a pointed tip.
  4. Once you get it, glue the end.
  5. Here's your teardrop.
P.S. Don't make the coil too loose.

Steps for flower:-
  1. Make 1 tight coil.
  2. Make 5 teardrops.
  3. Join the teardrops and glue them to make a flower.
  4. Place the tight coil in the centre.
  5. Here's your flower.

Now make lot of colourful flowers like these and stick them wherever you want to!
I would be glad to get tagged, and see how my blog has inspired you to start your quilling journey.
    Happy Quilling!!!

Warm regards,
Swirl&Quill.

Trial and errors!

Hello people!
Hope you all liked my first blog! Ok, so I have promised myself to write one blog a day for you all to lessen up the curiosity.

Quilling and me:-

I had started liking what I did for the first time and I was appreciated by many (family and friends). So I thought of trying and experimenting some more quilling. And here's a small sneak peek of my trial and error quillings!

My first quilled rose
(You can see the glue. I don't have any other picture of this)

My first quilled flower
(Colours don't go well, but its the first one)

My first quilled cross
(Have always been spiritually inspired, mostly because of my mother in law)

My first quilled miniature
(Added 1 flower later and the pearls are lost and gone)
P.S. I still have this one

Many more stories to tell and much more pictures to show, coming up in my next post. Keep reading!

Unexpected start!

Hello people!
I actually have no idea as to how many people might read this post of mine. But I am super happy that, finally! I am writing a blog!!
So here I am going to ellaborate the story of quilling and me:
Five years ago, I saw a wonderful piece of art done (on Fb) with colourful strips of paper called as quilling. And I gave a thought,"Ah! Even i can try this!"
So i went to a stationery shop and got a packet of quilling strips and a slotted tool for a start. Though it wasn't easy, I tried giving my best. Please have a look at it๐Ÿ‘‡

That was ideally six years ago! My first quilled project. That's my design! (No inspiration) And I'm proud of the first one. I still have this.

This one I clicked today, the same piece (brightened up because of multiple varnish coatings). It has got some bruises here and there. But still its my first project and I am super happy to share it with you all.

Continued in the next blog:-

Thank you for reading.
